SalesGossip Visits… Old Spitalfields Market

When we think of sales and the places in which we would find a sale, we automatically think of shops and then the after thoughts of online stores. Sales can be introduced in various forms, and more often than not people miss out on incredible sales because they do not see certain places as sale venues.

The reason I say this is because I believe that I have found a place where hundreds of sales happen under one roof every Sunday in London. If you have a few hours during a weekend instead of visiting the average shops that you would visit on a regular basis, try something different. Try one of London’s outdoor markets.

Old Spitalfields market is situated near Liverpool Street station and features vast amounts of unique treasures and must have buys. There are literally a hundred maybe more stalls, selling numerous unique pieces. From costume jewellery to scarves to clothes you can get anything you think of here.

At these markets you can spend hours (and lots of money) without even realising it. Every corner you turn there is a bargain to be had. Rails everywhere advertising all clothes £5 or £10, and not tack, vintage or designer clothes that have been passed down in generations all ready to be customised to fit this season’s fashion style. One of the most impressive stalls though and my personal favourite is the scarf stall. Scarves are a big hit this season, and at this stall all scarves are just £1, yes you did read correctly. These scarves are amazing, some are silk and beautiful designs, one I bought was even from Tie Rack years ago, it is just a case of rummaging through the mountains of scarves piled up, but then if you’re a lover of sales this should be nothing new to you.

The items you can buy here are so diverse. If you’re a lover of all things handmade then you’ll love this. For example, there are handmade leather sandals, handmade printed t-shirts with quirky designs, hats and accessories. For those of you that have a thing for jewellery then you have come to the right place. There is tonnes of jewellery all of sorts. You can buy gorgeous pendants with owls, clocks, birdcages etc on them, unique pieces with Scrabble, Lego and Dominoes on and many many more, and I won’t spoil the discovery too much for you!

The markets are a fresh way to look at sales. There are tonnes of bargains to be had and they happen every week, it is not a case of waiting for one to happen at key times in the year, they literally are every week.

The clothes you can purchase start at £5 and these range from rails of vintage skirts, to up and coming designers with their sequined button down shirts and customised jewellery with Scrabble pieces attached or Lego heads. There is something for everyone.

I think this is one sale that you can’t put into words; it is one that speaks for itself when you visit it. It is open every Sunday from 9am – 5pm and on a sunny day, there’s nothing like wandering around these “sales” with a glass of pimms in search for that quirky purchase.

Just a sale in another location.
