Chanel’s Little Black Jacket

The black boucle jacket is set to be the style of the season – but this is one look that never seems to date, and we all know where it started. The iconic little black jacket has been a signature Chanel look for decades, and now it has inspired a must-see photographic exhibition and coffee table book.

Karl Lagerfeld has photographed 109 celebrities (some of the few stars who’ve so far managed to escape the barbed tongue of the designer) all wearing versions of the classic Chanel jacket to illustrate the versatility of the look. Whatever your style, whatever your age, it always looks elegant. As Carine Roitfeld herself says:

‘You can wear it with jeans, over an evening dress… it suits everyone.’

Sarah Jessica Parker, Elizabeth Olsen, Yoko Ono, Kirsten Dunst, Daphne Guinness, Vanessa Paradis, Uma Thurman and Georgia May Jagger are just some of muses photographed for the project – but don’t be surprised to spot a few boys in the mix. Men of the moment such as Kanye West have also been persuaded to pose. Sounds strange, but then Coco was always one to blurr the boundaries between male and female fashion.

The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld is coming to London very soon. The exhibition will open at the Saatchi Gallery on 12th October and will run until 28th. We can’t wait!
