Or pick up a more structured Trollied Dolly dress and team it with some stacked wedges, a sophisticated stole and glitzy clutch and you’re all ready for that great garden party!
Most of you are sure to have seen the films Gladiator or 300 and now it is time to take a few style tips from those bronzed Gods and pick yourself up a pair of gladiator sandals too. Year after year these statement sandals re-enter our fashion filled lives as a must have summer staple and this year is definitely no different!
Seen all over the runways from Versace and Altuzarra to Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang as well as many more in-between the gladiator sandal has been warmly welcomed. Although, most of the catwalk versions have been reaching new heights (quite literally) with their knee grazing and thigh high designs we’ve come to think that despite being pretty amazing they’re probably not that wearable for our everyday wardrobes. Therefore we’ve hand selected a few of our favourites to help you out!
Opt for a more traditional look with legion’s leather in black or brown, or go for something that screams Emperor’s opulence with gold and silver. You could even make a real statement in something bright, bold or patterned which will give a modern and eccentric twist on the more traditional trend. Whatever you choose we’re sure that there is a gladiator shoe to suit every style so get hold of yours today!
From leather and lace to studs, spikes and safety pins – we just can’t get enough of the punk inspired looks showcased at this year’s Met Ball.
For almost 40 years the London v New York punk debate has raged on, but now it looks like we’re set to see a resurgence of subversive punk anti-fashion straight out of NYC following the annual Costume Institute Gala.
You couldn’t get an event closer to the centre of the fashion establishment, so all eyes were firmly fixed on the Big Apple to see how the world’s most stylish celebs would handle the ‘punk chaos’ theme of this year’s Met Ball. Cue Sid Vicious safety pins and Siouxsie Sioux bondage gear
We may have failed miserably to spot any multi-coloured Mohawks on the red carpet, but both Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway took the opportunity to show off their new bleached blonde cropped hair dos, whilst Sarah Jessica Parker just stopped just short of going for the chop, instead opting for a Philip Treacy ‘Faux Hawk’.
As a theme, punk played perfectly into Madonna’s hands. All she needed do was rummage through her 80s wardrobe of ripped jeans and lace bodystockings then pile on the crucifix jewellery. For others a smokey eye was by far enough of a nod to the theme.
Studded Burberry can be hailed the success of the evening – as seen on Sienna Miller and Cara Delevingne – but this is punk glammed up for the A-List. No green Mohawks, Dr Martens or old Sex Pistols t-shirts here! The Met Ball is a polite society affair rather than a display of anti-establishment anarchy after all. Rumour has it that Anna Wintour put her foot down to veto a naked sculpture of Vivienne Westwood as the centrepiece of the event. So is this it? Has Punk finally gone mainstream?
What’s that you say? There’s nothing to buy in the shops unless you want to dress like a member of One Direction? Then it’s a good job we can’t get enough of the whole Harry Styles look.
Taylor Swift might have known Harry Styles was going to be trouble as soon as he walked into her life, but it would seem the lad’s got a look the ladies just can’t resist – and there are even apps around that let you style-up Mr Styles like he’s your very own fashion doll!
So think you’d like to boost your pulling power with a bit of Harry’s style now? Then let us point you in the right direction. All it takes is 10 wardrobe staples
Onesies aside, Harry looks just as good in off duty denim as he does on stage in a sharp suit. A quick look through Harry’s greatest style hits and it’s easy to see the boy sure loves his skinny jeans – but the jury’s still out here at SGHQ. It can be a difficult look to pull off if you’re not a teenager anymore, but one way or another they’ll get you in the end! Stick to a dark wash and maybe ease yourself in with a narrow pair of straight legs and you’ll be hooked.
If you buy just one thing this season, make it a checked shirt. Whether you want to look like the sixth member of 1D or not, it’s a versatile style that can be dressed up or dressed down – depending on whether you layer yours with a blazer or a hoody. As for beanie hats, well they’re big news this season for girls and boys alike. Better get shopping
Love must be in the air! How else can the year on year increase in the number of wedding invitations dropping through our letterboxes be explained away? At least a wedding provides the perfect excuse for guests to dress up. It’s not every day that a veiled fascinator isn’t over doing it a bit – unless you’re Paloma Faith, that is.
It should be fun choosing an outfit – but wedding guest etiquette can be a sartorial minefield. Is white just for the bride? Is black too depressing? Does this dress clash with the carefully planned colour theme? Don’t panic! We’ve planned 3 perfect wedding guest outfits to strike just the right balance between extravagant and elegant – and everything’s in the sale!
Look 1: Summer Bright’s
This season we’re seeing a riot of colour, so why not strike out and make a statement in bold royal blue, hot pink or even orange? Avoid mixing lots of bright colours. Instead pick one shade you love and co-ordinate like crazy for a streamlined look. If that’s still all a bit too much try adding neutrals to the mix. And if our usual British summers are anything to go by you’ll be glad of a smart dress coat to beat the cold!
With the release of The Great Gatsby set for May, prepare to start seeing a whole lot of 1920s styles taking centre stage. If you’ve been invited to an evening reception a glitzy beaded flapper dress is a great option. For daytime, a simple dropped waist shift dress provides a chic take on the trend. Navy is a smart alternative to black – and who says you can’t wear ballet flats? If you’ve got to trek across a field to a marquee you’ll be the only one smiling! A neutral pashmina will go with pretty much anything in your wardrobe and keep off the chill – then just grab a bright red clutch bag to add a pop of colour.
When it comes to ice cream shades it’s hard to resist them all – so we say give into temptation and mix ‘n’ match! Mouth-watering mint green, lemon yellow and Parma violet work a treat together. Whilst animal prints may not usually be associated with wedding wear, sugary pink snake print stays the right side of chic when used on romantic chiffon. If you don’t fancy wearing a hat or a huge feathered fascinator, a pearl hair clip or girly bow is a cute alternative.

One final thought; if you’ve been given a dress code or specific colour to wear, stick to it! There’s something about instructions that make us want to rebel, but it is the bride’s prerogative after all – and you never know, it might just happen to make choosing the perfect dress that bit easier. Come to think of it, catch the bouquet and then you can tell everyone what to wear next time around
It’s fair to say Current/Elliott’s star print jeans have been around for what seems like an age now – but celebs both sides of the pond still can’t get enough of them. Just when we thought we’d seen it all before Nicola Roberts and Jessica Alba have made us look again with their rose-tinted take on the trend. Who knew all we’d have to do is add a pink blazer to create the perfect spring outfit?! The question is who wears it best?
Can’t decide? Well, neither could we – so here’s how to get Nicola’s pale and interesting look as well as Jessica’s colour explosion whether you have their clothing budget or not. Start off with a trip to House of Fraser, where you can pick up a pair of Current/Elliott’s ever popular star jeans in the sale.
Shop Nicola Roberts’ LFW Look:
Spotted FROW at the House of Holland show Nicola Roberts opted to team her star print jeans with a statement Stella McCartney boyfriend blazer, Alexander McQueen toe capped heels and a small but perfectly formed Chanel shoulder bag. A jacket like this could easily look far too formal, but the ripped jeans take it from Sloane Ranger to Shoreditch style hit. Yes, it’s an expensive look but equally possible to recreate on a budget
There’s no getting away from the fact that Jessica Alba has bags of style. Even when spotted out on a pretty average shopping trip she’s dressed to perfection in her uniform of distressed jeans and smart blazer. Sounds samey, but at SGHQ we never get tired of her style snaps. Maybe it’s because she’s not afraid mix things up and clash colours. something to keep in mind when shopping for Jessica’s look for less
Fashion’s love affair with the 60s looks all set to continue this spring. Think shift dresses and swing coats topped off with a chic beehive chignon. It all sounds very Jackie O – but the hypnotic Op Art inspired prints we’re seeing are making this look much more Carnaby Street cool. Louis Vuitton‘s S/S 13 show was packed to the rafters with a mind-boggling array of checkerboard designs covering classic black and white to bright canary yellow – and magazine editors have been clamouring to feature LV front cover ever since.
You’ll no doubt have seen the likes of Kristen Stewart, Jessica Alba and Miranda Kerr all squaring up in Louis Vuitton on the red carpet – and just as you thought this bold look just couldn’t get any better, MSGM have added florals into the mix.
The spring sunshine may be taking its sweet time, but that shouldn’t stop you shopping! Our Top 10 checkerboard buys have got you covered whatever the weather – and you might even find a few must-haves in the sale
School’s out and the Easter holidays are here, but we’ve found some schoolgirl styles that will have you racing back to the front of the classroom – whatever your age!
Take inspiration from Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, Anne Hathaway post Devil Wears Prada makeover and British Style Icon Alexa Chung (pictured left-right).
The whole ‘Geek Chic’ thing has been around for a while now, but you can forget about onesies emblazoned with slogans like ‘Geek’, ‘Nerd’ and ‘Loser’ – it’s time to unleash your inner Blair Waldorf and achieve preppy school prefect perfection.
For us it’s all about plaid pinafores and school blazers. Yes, we’re talking shirts buttoned up to the neck, sensible shoes, satchels and thick rimmed specs – pretty much Alexa Chung’s everyday look. Let’s face it, if she’s been crowned British Style Icon 3 years in a row she must be doing something right – but if it’s all a bit too straight laced for your taste, you could always dress down in sporty varsity styles.

The Voice is back on Saturday, so we’re getting in the spirit of things by paying homage to our favourite and best dressed judge – Ms Jessie J. Jessie might not have to worry about the price tags these days, but we do! So at SalesGossip we’ve been on a mission to get her look for less…
Who’d have thought there would come a time when we’d see Jessie J in anything but a skin-tight catsuit?! But before she took the drastic step of shaving her head for Comic Relief, she was snapped taking a bite out of the Big Apple last month in a stylish red, black and white ensemble. She may have left the red nose at home but she made sure to coordinate her red jumper and heels for a wearable look that still packs a ‘look at me’ punch.
We can’t get enough of Jessie’s Rag & Bone Grand Prix Motocross Skinny Jeans with leg-slimming leather panels. They’ll set you back £250 at My Theresa - but we’ve found an amazing style steal. Spin your chair around if you wanna see where – or just read on…
