The team at TSL know planning your weekend should start as soon as Monday’s over, so take a look at their top picks for what’s on in the capital this coming week. First on the list, their very own food festival, kicking off the weekend in style – and a day early - this Thursday. See you there!

Riverboat Food Fest: Food Festival, Albert Embankment, £25

Riverboat Food Fest
Starting this Thursday and running for three nights, get ready for five courses from fifteen of the finest street food vendors the capital has to offer, all served with tasty views over the Thames. Street feasting meets fine dining, with bespoke creative cocktails and top tunes from the likes of Young and Lost Club and Live and Unamplified, all five senses are in for a treat.

Check out our line up here, we defy you not to feel hungry!

Sparked Photography Competition: Art, Closes 15th July

Riverboat Food Fest

Capture, then caption the best of East London and get your work judged by a Turner prize winning artist. All for the chance to have your work featured at TSL favourite ‘The View Tube’ as well as archived by the National Archives. And if that’s not enough to inspire you, the photographer crowned the winner gets to celebrate with Davey himself, and choose from our selection of amazing prizes – so get out there and get snapping!

Machivelli: Restaurant, Covent Garden

Riverboat Food Fest

For a special night out at the theatre or even an impromptu dinner in central, a chain restaurant just won’t do. Instead seek out Machivelli for high quality ingredients, beautiful surroundings, plus a reincarnated Roman for an owner (try the food and you’ll believe it too). Book yourself in for some brilliant one of a kind Italian cooking in the heart of the West End.

Jamboree: Bar and live music, Limehouse

Riverboat Food Fest

Our East London favourite, Jamboree has a long summer of live music lined up, beginning with the weird and wonderful L’Orchestre this Saturday. As summer is hardly shaping up to be a scorcher, work up a sweat dancing the night away instead. Check out the line up, get down there and dance! See you on the dance floor.

Designer Warehouse Sale: Sample Sale, Thane Villas

Riverboat Food Fest

One for the sartorial gentlemen, the ‘best designer outlet in London’ is the place to head for up to 70% of your favourite designers this weekend. With gems from the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Moschino, Prada and Margiela to be found, gents can up their style credentials without breaking the bank.

TSL’s Top 5

It may be Friday, but if you’re still stuck for ideas on how to spend your weekend John-Michael Sookias from Twenty Something London is here to provide some food for thought, from shopping spring sample sales to savouring Dim Sum…

1) Hidden Bar: Luggage Room, Mayfair

This is the perfect place to end a night. I’ve taken a few people here after dinner during the week or a night out on the weekend. Every time it has the same effect; awe. No matter who I come here with we never manage to leave before 3:30 (their unofficial closing time). The Luggage Room just seems to suck you into a time warp.

2) Sample Sales: London Designer Sale

The London Designer Sale always provides a quality offering. They have their next sale next weekend and it is not one to miss.

3) Giveaway: iPad Mini Sleeves by Picaso Labs

The incredible Alex from Picaso Lab is offering 5 of his handmade leather iPad Mini Sleeves for our readers. Enter to win one of them by sharing the image posted at the top of our Facebook page and liking our page or tweeting this page tagging @twntysmthngldn with #picasolabsgiveaway and following us.

4) Bar & Dim Sum Lounge: Opium, Chinatown

Opium is probably my favourite place in London at the moment. The staff is the best around and the cocktails and dim sum will excite your tastebuds. Make a booking ahead of time if you want to make it up the hidden staircase tucked between two restaurants.

5) New Music: Online

If you’re at work and want some new music before or during your weekend here’s our new mix by Simon from That DJ. Simon has put together an eclectic mix that will keep you dancing all week.

Luke Lehmann in the Hairdresser’s Hot Seat

Luke Lehmann is a London-based session stylist with over a decade’s hairdressing experience under his belt.

Luke’s scissor skills have been put to good use for the likes of Vogue, The Ecologist, The Independent and More, and he has also worked and on music videos for artists including Pixie Lott, La Roux and The Noisettes. Let’s find out more…

So Luke, what hairstyle is everyone asking you for at the moment?

Groomed, smooth, long layers for women, with natural movement – a la Kate Middleton. Boys – the 50′s smart short back and sides is a favourite – think Mad Men and David Beckham in his H&M underwear campaign.

What is going to be the next big look of 2013?

In hair everyone is still enjoying the 50′s groomed affair; in clothes a little bit more animal print…even for the lads! Hello Teddy Boys!

Which celebrity hairstyles do you love?

I love Tilda Swinton’s beautiful ability to flick from edgy to classic and back again.

Who’s the nicest celeb you’ve styled?

I am really grateful all the celebrities I have styled have been so sweet, despite the nerves I may have had the night before!

Who’s hair would you love to do?

I like to keep my work as varied as possible. From cutting in homeless shelters to stately homes, getting people ready for the Royal Wedding to picnic weddings, a five year old’s birthday party to guests at Nelson Mandela’s 90th…Everybody has a hairdressing story and it’s my pleasure to play my part in making them feel their best.

Any backstage gossip you can give us from Fashion Week?

It’s super fun, but not as glam as it looks out front!

Styling can take its toll, so what would be your No. 1 haircare tip?

The right shampoo and conditioner. And when intending to use straightening irons, smooth hair best you can with hairdryer and brush, as less damaging, and finish off with irons to complete the look – don’t rely solely on irons to do all the work.

Who is your ultimate style icon?

John Rocha was probably my first. How he is so creative, yet isn’t afraid of simple elegance. I remember seeing him on The Clothes Show when I was a child.

What was the last thing you bought in the sales, and how much did you save?

Le Creuset cooking pot – saved £90!

What will you be shopping for this spring/summer?

A little bit of leopard print – just a flash. A tie, a belt, a handkerchief in the jacket breast pocket. Something I can use on multiple outfits.

Which are your favourite shops/designers and why do you love them?

Sample sales, because they are like digging for treasure!

You’d splurge on… Classics, things I’ll wear for years to come.

You’d search the sales for… Jeans and extra special everyday items I wouldn’t pay full price for.

You’d avoid… False economies – don’t buy it just because it’s on sale, you’ll end up with more than you need in your wardrobe and less than you need in the bank!

What’s your No. 1 shopping tip?

Window shopping. Keep browsing. You are doing research, then you will know when you’re onto a winner and put your money on the table. I rarely go shopping for a particular thing, but, know what I’m after and keep my eye out.

Thanks Luke! We’ll keep you posted about all the latest sample sales. See you for a trim soon…

Christopher Raeburn Sample Sale

Ishwari Thopte is the Marketing and Communications Executive for London based fashion incubator Centre for Fashion Enterprise (CFE). She has been associated with the fashion industry for the past 8 years, during which she has worked with key names in the luxury and retail sectors in India and the UK. When she is not busy planning seminars, networking with key delegates or tweeting from the front row at LFW, Ishwari enjoys writing for Eco Fashion World – and now SalesGossip. In this series, she’s going to keep us updated with all the interesting sample sales and private order evenings taking place in London, so stay tuned if you don’t want to miss out!

With a chill in the wind, a crisp in the air and the leaves changing colour, there’s no doubt that winter is already here. ‘And what’s so good about the wet British winter?’ you ask. Well, for starters, it’s not just raining cats and dogs, it’s also raining end of season sales; and the designer sample sales and private order evenings are just the cherry on the cake!

Fancy getting your hands on some designer pieces at almost 80% off retail price? Now that’s a bargain worth getting up for on any Saturday morning! Leading the sample sales this season is the young British designer Christopher Raeburn, whose recycled parachutes have won him many accolades including a British Fashion Award and UKFT Export Award. Inspired by the challenge of creating ethically-aware men’s and women’s clothing, the label was launched in 2008 and the designer has become known for his utilisation of re-appropriated military fabrics to create garments that are functional, intelligent and meticulously crafted. Ræburn’s collections are highlighted for their intelligent design, high quality and extreme attention to detail, something that is highly commendable in his outerwear.

I first discovered the brand in September 2009 at the Esthetica exhibition which is part of London Fashion Week. Christopher is the only designer from Esthetica to have won the prestigious NEWGEN sponsorship for both men’s and womenswear. In the last three years, the label has grown from merely recycled parkas and regimental wool coats to a full range collection including beautifully tailored dresses, sexy separates, waterproof jackets, smart shirts and blazers as well as utilitarian backpacks and accessories. He has also captured oversees markets with his strategic collaborations with Swiss Army giant Victorinox and famed Italian outerwear brand Moncler.

Needless to say, every wardrobe deserves a Christopher Raeburn to be proud of and if you don’t already possess one of his fab coats, here’s your chance to grab one at an insanely reduced price. Head over to his studio on the 1st of December for his semi-legendary sample sale which he holds twice per year. You can find old season stock and samples (as well as rare one-offs that didn’t go into production) for up to 80% off. What’s more, they even provide a host of fine booze and nibbles!!! Can you think of a better place to look for your last minute Christmas gifts or add a designer coat to your winter wardrobe? I think not…

Sample Hunting with Kirsty

My name is Kirsty and I am the founder of Sample Hunters. I created the company from my passionate love of designer labels and the vision of giving fashion label lovers the opportunity to obtain designer garments and accessories at affordable prices. At Sample Hunters we wanted to make sure we offered unique choice of designers and pride ourselves on not just offering current, well established labels but up and coming designers from around the world as well as home grown talent. If you come to a Sample Hunters designer sample sale, please make sure you come over and say hi.

What was your last purchase in the sales? My last item I brought from a sale was a See by Chloe 100% cashmere cardigan in a pale grey. As soon as I put it on I felt warm and comfortable and I am all ready for the winter weather. It looks great with jeans or alternatively worn over a black dress.

Tell us about the best bargain you have ever found? The best bargain I brought was a pair of Armani Jeans for just £20. I don’t know if you have ever worn Armani Jeans but the fit is great and they wash up perfectly every time. Obviously they where brought from a Sample Hunters designer sale as well as the See by Chloe Cashmere cardigan.

If you could only shop in one high street store, which would you choose and why? I love French Connection. I think they offer a wide range of choice from casual to evening wear and you can always find a bit of glitz and glamour.

Who are your favourite designers? My favourite designer of all time is Giorgio Armani, as he always manages to give a look of sophistication to all his collections. I also like Juicy Couture for the fun side to their designs and their very comfortable track suits. Sample Hunters has a great selection of full Juicy tracksuits at £120 (RRP £250).

Who is your style crush? Victoria Beckham and of course her handsome husband.

Who would be your dream shopping companion? My blackberry connected to the SalesGossip website so I can find the best sales.

Which trends for A/W ’12 are you be shopping for? A Louis Vuitton bag.

Have you ever had an embarassing moment whilst out shopping you’d like to share with us? Trying to fit into something that is the wrong size which is generally too small.

What would you love to find with 80% off? I don’t have to look hard as I would shop at a Sample Hunters designer sale and pick up some of my favourite brands all at up to 80% off RRP.

What would be your number one tip for successful sales shopping? Come to a Sample Hunters sale and enjoy the rails of great sale items all under one roof.

Thanks Kirsty!

If you’ve been inspired to shop the next Sample Hunters sale, you can find all the details you’ll need right here on SalesGossip.

Don’t forget to enter our new competition and you could win a Vivienne Westwood necklace or an Oliver Spencer scarf courtesy of Sample Hunters.
